Microsoft acquiring GitHub for $7.5 billion
Microsoft is making it official today that it has acquired GitHub, the popular code repository that has become very popular with developers and companies hosting entire projects, documentation, and code.
World’s big tech companies are using GitHub and there are 85 million code repositories and 28 million developers contribute to its community which is still counting. GitHub will now be led by CEO Nat Friedman, the founder of Xamarin. GitHub former CEO and co-founder Chris Wanstrath will now become a Microsoft technical fellow.
